The Thorny Question of Jewellery Value Versus Scrap Value.....
Metal Versus Bling...

Here's the trickiest question and dilemma we face on a daily basis - a piece of gold (mostly) jewellery is presented to us looking very nice, covered in gemstones of kinds various and clearly looking all of the money. The owner loves it but needs it gone and is optimistic that they are sat on a decent penny or so especially as it such a pretty piece and cost a fortune on the High Street.
Very occasionally you are presented with a truly stunning piece that really does have a value greater than the sum of it's parts but that is a rare situation. More often than not you are looking a piece of commercial jewellery which was originally sold at a staggering mark up (that's another story altogether!) made from (usually) 9ct gold and bedecked with cheap gemstones cleverly presented to appear as sparkly as possible. In these cases the only value is in the metal especially nowadays with gold at an all time high. The gemstones are unceremoniously pried out of the piece to forever gather dust in a precious metal dealers draw and the metal goes into the pot.
The moral of this story is to get expert advice from the earliest juncture. If you would like us to appraise any item and you are in the Plymouth travel to work area, South Hams, West Devon or South East Cornwall region then please get in touch. We come to you, there is no obligation to sell.
