Investing in Gold?
An Opinion....

We are often asked "I want to invest in gold - what should I buy?" which of course really puts us on the spot as we are not financial advisors and are not technically qualified to give investment advice. But we are entitled to an opinion and ours is based on hard-earned experience. So, if we were you we would be looking to invest our money in the items that represent the very worst profit margin for the precious metal dealers like us. With us so far... let's look at the facts...
Fact one - when you buy anything someone is making a profit. It's the way the world goes around. When you come to sell the very same purchase some point into the future you are hoping the gold value will have increased and you are in the money. But, if you were to buy it one minute and the very next, change your mind and want to sell it back, you would lose money as the buyer will need to make a margin for their efforts. This is the "bid / offer spread" and it's unavoidable. This spread varies hugely between different metals and types of product of the same metal.
Fact two - you need to dodge VAT and other taxes. Which is why you buy gold over silver so you don't suffer the further loss of VAT being charged (and never to be recovered as a private buyer) and, in order to avoid capital gains tax you need to buy coins of the realm - all of the above applies to the UK only.
Take the two facts above and it only leads you to a few places - in our humble opinion - and that's Sovereigns (of all types) and the golden delights that are Britannia's (again, in the whole or fractional). Tax free, harder to fake and with the tightest of bid offer spreads these are our "Go To" investment pieces. When we buy them from customers we give the very best prices with really tight margins to the later resale value. If we make less, you make more or lose less in the very short term. In the case of Britannia's they are really sexy to look at, handle and give a sense of pride in ownership.
So, if you have gold coins to sell and you are in the Plymouth, South Hams, West Devon or South East Cornwall area then please get in touch as we will happily pay you very fair prices for your coins or other investment gold. Or, if you would like to buy a few at a price less than the big dealers why not get in touch as we usually have a small handful in stock.
