We are often asked if gold is a good investment at which point we do usually offer an opinion - not advice as such as we are not regulated to give advice. Our opinion is "yes but be prepared to be patient" which is true of almost all kinds of investment be they property, stocks and shares or precious metals. Most people we buy from have done pretty well from their initial purchases but there are exceptions to the rule of course.

But last week we hit real pay dirt in terms of a good news story. A visit to a client in South Devon revealed a 500g gold bar which they had purchased ten years ago for about £15,000.00 pounds. Sat in their living room we cheerfully paid a lot more than three times that amount giving them a healthy 300% plus profit in ten years - not at all bad for something not much bigger than a large matchbox! Needless to say the client was very pleased as a very large amount of money arrived in his bank account before we left with the gold bar.

This was very much a classic case of the Devon Precious Metals unique selling point in action. There was no way the client was posting such a valuable item to anyone and the local secondhand / pawn shops were either not prepared to take the risk on such a large purchase or it was simply beyond their purse. And who in their right mind wants to traipse around town withe such a valuable item in their purse or pocket?
