Elephants Never Forget.. But…..

Sometimes we are offered the most weird and wonderful items during our working week. This job is often like being a Police Officer or a Paramedic or Fire Fighter – you get the call but are never quite sure what you will turn up to. OK, we do ask for a heads up before the appointment is made but quite often we get there and you are hit with the classic “Columbo Close”* along the lines of “I have also have a couple of these, what do you think…”

And so it was last week when two elephants were produced out the blue. No hallmarks, probably produced in the middle east somewhere but pretty chunky and heavy. The client was keen to realise some cash into their bank account so we took these beautiful items to be tested and they came in at a very pleasing 18ct gold – in fact 30g of the lovely stuff which translated into a healthy sum of money for our client.

So, the moral of this story is never to look a gift elephant in the mouth but get it checked out and converted into ready money!
