Double or Quits?
Purity Pays….

Take a look at the picture below and try and guess how much it’s worth. What do you think? Truth it’s hard to tell at first glance and of course if it’s all 9ct gold then it’s a simple set of maths to get to the value based on the gold value on any given day.
But hang on a second – it’s not that simple. In our experience the big handful of gold pieces lurking unloved in jewellery boxes, wall safes, dusty drawers and “somewhere safe” are invariably a mixed bag ranging from gold plated or rolled gold (pretty much worthless) to 18 and 22ct items. It’s virtually impossible to tell from a casual glance.
The fact is 18ct gold is worth double that of 9ct with 14ct being a sort of halfway house. At the time of writing this large handful of gold items would be worth about £3000.00 if all 9ct and double that if all 18ct. Of course it almost always turns out to be a mixed bag of all these purity levels and, in this case this collection earned it’s owner around £4000.00 once we had sorted it into the various purities.
The process of checking and appraising takes time and skill.
