COVID, Ukraine and now Mr Trump has had to use his big stick on Iran. You couldn't make it up - three cost of living crises inside of six years. Needless to say it's us the people in the street who get to pay the financial price and this time it could ramp up into a nasty place very quickly and may well stay there for a while depending on exactly how long it takes to instigate regime change from the sky! Inflationary pressures are going to hit us hard in the pocket for as long as the rockets rage over the Middle East.

As always in such circumstances, cash is king and the average friendly (!!) AI chatbot banker is loath to offer any help nowadays. And of course, getting to speak to a real person in one of our hallowed financial institutions is an art form only matched by trying to get an appointment with your GP! Luckily help is at hand as virtually every household in the land has a little stash of goodness just waiting to be turned into ready cash. We are talking about items made of gold and silver lurking in dusty drawers, jewellery boxes, in the loft or all those other "safe" places we stash such items.

Bear in mind that, with current prices of gold and silver a scant handful of broken, unfashionable or unwanted jewellery, tableware, cutlery and suchlike can be worth a considerable amount of money - the items in the image above realised the owner over £4500.00 (February 2026) for a bunch of items that had, quite literally, been sat in a draw for over 25 years. Needless to say the cash injection was very welcome and will no doubt pay for a few tanks of fuel whilst the scrap gold will be reborn and repurposed - probably (ironically!) to be used to create circuit boards for the regeneration of Mr Trump's missile arsenal - a virtuous circle don't you think!?
